To begin, a design needs to be created. The compartments or “cloisons” are made and closed using thin wires of gold and silver. The design consists of various compartments, which end up looking a lot like a mosaic once put together.

Once the compartments have been cleaned of debris, the enamel is spooned into each compartment and fired into a kiln. After the kiln firing, the enamel needs to cool completely and be ground down to remove uneven surfaces and bumps.

More enamel is then applied and the object is placed into the kiln. This is an ongoing process until the wire is secured to the object and the color is sealed.

After the last firing in the kiln, the entire piece is polished for shine.
